LaCienega 3.0
Description:
The document, LaCienega3.0, is intended to function as a mini-catalog,
order form and promotional piece for a clothing designer/retailer. The
design is remenicent of fashion magazines. To the left side is an embeded
HTML viewer, linked to an order form which contains a link to the
mini-catalog. In the middle of the document are buttons linked to the web
pages of major fashion magazines (magazines in which the company has
advertisements and/or reviews). Under the order form window is a button to
send e-mail for more information or to order a printed catalog. The
Consumer is invited to browse the online mini-catalog, visit the magazine
web sites, and place an order! In the mini-catalog, viewers can click on
each thumbnail view to see a larger jpeg image in a separate window. The
order form is fully functional and delivers a nicely formatted e-mail order
to the company.
Cyberdog is an excellent tool for this type of marketing. Because all of
the price and product information is on the Internet rather than being in
the document itself, the data can be changed at any time to reflect
changes, expiration of old offers, announcement of new offers, etc.
Compared to marketing using a web site, the Cyberdocument allows disks to
be handed out at tradeshows or retail stores, packaged with magazines, or
delivered as a direct mail campaign. The consumer has something to hold
onto, both to remind her to experience it and to keep her from having to
remember any URL's. In the case of the La Cienega document, a consumer is
likely to keep the document simply as a convenient launching point to the
major magazines, which update regularly. The first thing that the viewer
will see each time the document is loaded is the updated message from La
Cienega announcing new products, new sales, etc.
Cyberdog and OpenDoc are to the Internet what AppleTalk and the Chooser
are to LAN's. Local networking is so simple now that it's easy to think
that I have 60 Gigs and 12 printers right at my own desk. Imagine the
Internet being so simple. That's Cyberdog.
